News Flash November 2002

Cork Co. Council have now taken an interest in this historic building,
and are looking into the ownership problem.

It all began when a group of  local people met in Canovee Hall on the thirteenth of May 1998. As a result the "Carrigadrohid Castle Project Committee" was formed.  Committee Members included, Paddy Ring, Ted Dunne, Paul Power, Michael  Murphy, R. Browne, Con Dunne,  Mary Harrington Rita O'Brien and Peter Scanlan. The first task was to carry out an Architectural / Archaeological Survey. James Howley, Dublin was appointed Architect with Lisa Edden, Engineer from Wicklow, and Eamomn Cotter, Archaeologist from Rathcormac in Co. Cork

  This Survey was carried out on March 21st. 2000  Our total  costs were in the region of £12,000. West Cork Leader 11 provided funding of £8000, the balance was made up by way of a "local contribution"

On Thursday 27th of July 2000, Minister for the Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht, and the Islands Síle DeValera,   launched the completed Archaeological/Architectural Report of Carrigadrohid Castle in Bealick Mill Macroom.
