Prayer Requests

Your request for prayer will be transferred electronically to a group of five monks of the Benedictine Congregation of St. Mary of Monte-Oliveto, who have established a monastic presence in Rostrevor, Co.Down, Northern Ireland.
During their times of silent prayer and meditation and their main liturgical celebrations of morning and evening prayer, the Monks have generously offered to pray for the intentions of those who make requests through the
Catholic Ireland Website. We thank them on your behalf. Please remember the monks in your prayers also.

Prayer Thought
'The King Who Comes in the Name of the Lord'
Today marks the last lap of our journey with Christ through suffering to glory. We hail Him as our King, who through death and resurrection will establish his Kingdom as the hope of our salvation. 1-4-07

Prayer Thought
'The deaf hear and the dumb speak'
God's promise, made through Isaiah, is fulfilled in Jesus.. Even today He works in us, giving us the power to hear Him and to proclaim his Good News. 10-9-06

Prayer for Vocations
Heavenly Father, we praise you and we thank you for all that you have done for us. We thank you especially for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to visit and save us. We ask you to bless our families and all those who are dear to us, especially those who are suffering in any way.
Give courage to those in our parish whom you invite to become priests
and religious, and grant them the
generosity of mind and heart to
follow your call. May they bring
good news to our world today.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen 14-5-06

Old Prayer.
When the shadows of death gather round me,
And the portals of heaven draw nigh,
Will you come to me Mary Immaculate,
Come and help me to die.
Come with St. Joseph your escort;
let me hear the sweet sound of your voice,
Saying 'now your exile is ending,
The time is at hand to rejoice'. 1-4-06

***************

Prayer Thought.

To be a spokesperson for God.
A Prophet is God's spokesperson: to speak God's word to his people. The closer we unite ourselves to Jesus, the more his words will become our own, so that we too may become spokesmen and spokeswomen for Him. 29-1-06

***************

Prayer Thought.

The Day of the Lord is Coming.

The sense of urgency increases. God has given each of us a particular talent: a special skill or quality to use for His glory. In this way we are to produce a harvest of fruitful growth if we are to hear His 'well done!' on the Last Day.

***************

Prayer Thought
You have prepared a banquet for me.
The Scriptures often compare the joys of Heaven to a sumptuous banquet which God offers to his friends. As we take part in the Mass today, we pray that we may be found worthy to take our place at God's eternal banquet. 9-10-05

***************

Prayer Thought
What I want is love, not sacrifice.
Jesus had very little time for the mere trappings of religion - He was concerned with the heart of the matter: our relationship with God and with one another. For God sees through our external observances and looks for the sincerity of the heart. 6-6-05

***************

Prayer Thought
One voice to profess one faith.
The sending of the Holy Spirit is God's gift to us to complete his work on earth. The Spirit strengthens us and binds us in the unity of the Church. In that Spirit we can say in truth 'Jesus is Lord'.
***************

Prayer Thought

The Father will give you another Advocate.
The promised Holy Spirit is our Advocate:
with Him 'on our side' we have no need to fear God's judgement. The Holy Spirit will be our strength, our hope and our joy,
and the pledge of our future glory.

Prayer Thought.

Our Way, Our Truth and Our Life.
Jesus prepares his disciples for the time when they will no longer see Him. Our risen Saviour has promised to prepare a place for us in his Kingdom if we follow his way and live in union with Him

Prayer for the Election of a New Pope.

Heavenly Father, we praise you and we thank you for your goodness and kindness to us. Guide now the Cardinals as they gather in Rome to choose a successor to Pope John Paul. In your mercy, give us a loving shepherd who will reflect Christ's love for us. May he, by word and example, inspire all people and bring us to the joy of everlasting life. Amen

***************

Prayer for Vocations

O Jesus, send labourers into your fields, which are awaiting holy apostles, saintly priests, heroic missionaries and dedicated sisters and brothers.
Enkindle in the hearts of men and women the spark of a vocation.
Grant that Christian families may desire to give your Church, helpers in the work of tomorrow.
Amen.

Prayer Thought

That Extra Step.
I will do more than belong. I will participate.
I will do more than care. I will help.
I will do more than believe. I will practice.
I will do more than be fair. I will be kind.
I will do more than forgive. I will love.
I will do more than earn. I will serve.
I will do more than teach. I will enrich.

I was Blind but Now I can See.

Without faith we are like blind people unable to find our way. With the light of faith we can see the Way of Christ stretching before us. We pray for those to be baptised at Easter, that they may be given the vision of faith to see Christ clearly.
6-3-05

Think About It.

If you or I wanted a word with a really important person it may take some time to arrange; it may not even be possible. Look at the power God has put into your hands. You can have a word anytime .... and for as long as you like. In fact, He is waiting right now, right where you are. In a very special way He is in the Tabernacle in church, ready to listen, to speak to your heart about the questions that concern you at the deepest level. Why not "waste" some time with Him this week, or better still this day.

Prayer Thought

A spring welling up to eternal life.
Lent is a time of preparation for those to be baptised and received into the Church at Easter. The water Jesus gives not only cleanses us from sin but refreshes and renews our inmost being. This living water is the gift of faith.

27-2-05

Prayer Thought.

The sinless One who must suffer.
The Messiah was destined to suffer even death itself.
The harsh truth is tempered for his disciples by the glimpse of his true glory at his Transfiguration. That glimpse is encouragement for us, too, as we struggle to follow the way of the cross.
Love
When you love you should not say,
'God is in my heart', but rather,
'I am in the heart of God. '
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you must have desires,
let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night;
To know the pain of too much tenderness;
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
and to bleed willingly and joyfully;
to wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
to rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
to return home at eventide with gratitude;
and then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart
and a song of praise upon your lips.
Kahlil Gibran

Prayer Thought.

A Prayer for Life
O Mary, bright dawn of the new world
Mother of the living,
to you we entrust the cause of life:
Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers
of babies not allowed to be born.

Grant that we may
listen with open and generous hearts
to every word which proceeds
from the mouth of God.
Thus we shall learn not only to obey the
commandment not to kill human life,
but also to revere life, to love it,
and to foster it.
Amen.
Pope John Paul II

20-2-05

***************

Prayer Thought.

The Lord is our light and our help.
Christ is the light of the world. In the confusion of our lives it is He who calls us from despair to hope, from sadness to joy, from darkness into light.
23-1-05

***************

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, be my sanctification,
Body of Christ, be my salvation,
Blood of Christ, fill my veins,
Water from the side of Christ, wash out my stains,
May Christ's Passion strengthen me,
O good Jesus, hear me.
In they wounds I fain would hide,
Never to be parted from they side.
Guard me when my foes assail me,
Call me when my life shall fail me.
Command me then to come to thee.
That I for all eternity
With they saints may praise thee.
18-1-04

***************

Prayer Thought

'Welcoming God into our midst'
We are called to both work and pray - and it is sometimes difficult to strike the right balance, as Martha discovered. May we always be willing to do the work of the Lord without forgetting the Lord of all work.
18-7-04

***************

Prayer Thought.

The foolishness of God.
Every talent or skill we have comes from God: we can only boast about his gifts. When we recognise how poor we are, then we are rich indeed.
